1. Train tickets are point-to-point only, i.e. Tickets are NOT valid any more once the passenger gets off the train halfway.

There are 6 trains running between Beijing to Pingyao every day. Three trains are G and D trains (High-speed EMU Train or bullet train), and other three are the K trains (Fast Train).
It is suggested that passengers choose D or G category trains, which only takes about 4 - 4.5 hours. K trains are overnight trains with a journey of 10-13 hours having many stops on their way. Bear in mind that the boarding passengers could be noisy and may disturb you.
If you arrive at Taiyuan by air or train, you could continue to take a train from Taiyuan to Pingyao, which takes about 40 minutes. Or you could book a tour or car from a travel agency, which take you to visit some attractions on the way to Pingyao, such as the Jinci Temple and the Wang Family Compound.

From Beijing to Pingyao
G train (G 609) leaves Beijing at 10:33 and arrives at Pingyao at 14:25.
D trains (G 2001, G2005) leave Beijing at 7:58 and 15:29; and arrives at Pingyao about 4 hours later.
From Pingyao to Beijing
G train (G 616) leaves Pingyao at 13:40 and arrives at Beijing at 17:28.
D trains (G 2002, G2006) leave Pingyao at 8:42 and 16:15; and arrives at Beijing about 4 hours later.
All the G/D trains have 2nd class, 1st class, VIP class seats, and a dining carriage. There are 5 seats in a row for‘2nd class’ and 4 seats in a row for ‘1st class’. Obviously, 1st class is more comfortable and has more room for legs than the 2nd class. In addition, there is a power socket under every seat in the‘1st class’ carriage.
